Auxiliary Fuel Tank – SFAR 88 Compliance achieved

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Quiet Wing Corporation, based in Kirkland, WA, USA is pleased to announce the successful qualification and STC issuance for an SFAR 88 compliance fix to auxiliary fuel tanks.  The first STC issued by the FAA to show compliance with FAA Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2008-12-03 was issued to Quiet Wing on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, STC #ST02241LA. This STC is also recognized as an Alternate Means of Compliance (AMOC) to the AD and allows continued use of the auxiliary fuel tanks with no restrictions.

The design, engineering and certification for the complete system was performed by Quiet Wing, and the system was installed on a B727 series aircraft operated by Vallejo Investments, Inc. at Flight Test Associates in Mojave, CA.  The total time to complete the installation was 10 days.

The technology developed by Quiet Wing during this first STC process has direct application to auxiliary fuel tanks manufactured by both Rogerson and PATS, Inc. and is applicable to B727, B737, B757, B767, DC-9 and MD-80 series aircraft.
